Hey friends! It’s Stephanie writing to you all again, which means we’re back in school. Every time a new school year comes around, there’s so much anticipation for all the new changes. Like today, we started a new schedule where classes are shortened by five minutes so we can all have an active recess after lunch. If you came to our school during recess, you would see everyone running around playing basketball, taking a walk, or playing four square volleyball. We promote healthy living here, and with this mandatory twenty-minute recess, we are one step closer.
There are so many new people this year and I am so thankful that Covid has died down enough for us to start out with no masks (not to jinx anything). It’s so nice seeing everyone’s facial expressions and seeing all their smiles. I was starting to only recognize people by their eyes. Even though Covid isn’t affecting us as much this year, we are still careful and doing our part by sanitizing all surfaces to keep everyone safe.
Some students like to get a head start and move into the dorm a few days early to participate in our clinics. Students get to experience our Aerokanas gymnastics team as well as our many music ensembles. I participated in this year’s Aerokanas gymnastics clinic, and I’m convinced everyone has a six-pack after it. I still hesitate before walking up the stairs. We got a feel for what Aeros is like, to say the least.
The music clinic gives our students just a taste of some of the different options available including Chambers (our select choir); wind symphony; strings; and bells. There is certainly a place for everyone here on campus, and we strongly suggest people join a touring group. It makes your experience here ten times better.
We’ve already had fun events like mat ball on Saturday night, which is just kickball but with gymnastics mats as the bases so it breaks our falls. There were activity stations and lawn games during Sunday Fun Day which ended with a nice game of what I call slip and slide kickball. There were swimming pools at each base and soapy water in between. Hey, kickball is just an all-around good game and when you add slippery soap, it’s even better. To put the cherry on the top of the day, we quite literally did that. We all gathered around center campus for an ice cream social and enjoyed getting to know each other.
It can be hard to adapt to school, but our staff tries to make it as comfortable as possible. I think they are doing an amazing job so far, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for everyone here at GLAA this year. I know we as a student body will do great things, and I hope to share every step of the way with my readers.
I wish you all an amazing week and make sure to follow us on Facebook to see all of this in photos!
