The MOST Wonderful Time of the Year

Happy Holidays everyone! Can you feel the excitement of Christmas coming up around you? I know seeing all of campus decorated makes me feel cheerful and motivated to do better. There are many talented writers all around the school and today I have the honor of introducing one! Today’s blog is brought to you by a freshman from Wisconsin, Grace. Enjoy your holiday and save me a cookie or two!

Well, I obviously have to start out by saying, Merry Christmas! I hope that everyone is having a delightful start to the holiday season. I know our kick off to Christmas has been incredible here at Great Lakes Adventist Academy. Christmas here has to be one of my favorite things so far. It’s like the usual warm family environment gets just a few degrees warmer, and our family becomes even closer.

Here at GLAA, we focus on the real reason for Christmas and keep Jesus at the center of everything, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have fun! One of our Christmas traditions here is our annual faculty family parties. This is a chance for small groups to get together at staff homes to have dinner, worship, play games, and just spend time together.  The festivities don’t stop there, we have snacks and Christmas music in the learning center the whole week of finals. We even had smoothies, popcorn, and homemade muffins to help us get through our finals for what we call the “destress fest”. our cruel, sinful world, just for us. He did all of this so that one day soon, we can be in Heaven with Him. I think that’s amazing.

Last Friday night, we were told to wear Christmas attire to vespers, and oh boy did people listen to that. There were Santa hats and tree lights galore. Pastor Jeff figured out a great way for students to participate in worship. He walked past the pews and picked unsuspecting students to come up and act out a scene from the Christmas story. It was truly a blast. I was asked to be the angel who delivered the message of the Messiah’s birth to the shepherds, and, in my opinion, I was an amazing angel. There was also singing in between scenes, and a couple special musics, which is always a blessing.

As you can see, Christmas at Great Lakes Adventist Academy is in fact, “the most wonderful time of the year!” We want to ask for your prayers as we finish off our end-of-semester exams and travel home for the holidays. To stay updated, connect with us on Instagram and Facebook. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and may your hearts glow with as much love as Jesus’ did!
